Suwannee County is a rural farming community. Friendly neighbors watch out for each other here and always lend a helping hand. Live Oak has a charming small town feel. Folks know they can always find a smiling face and a helping hand. People come from all around and it’s easy to see why more people are calling Suwannee County home or visiting often.
Agriculture
Agriculture is the main industry here. There are many industrial chicken farms and dairies as well as cultivation. We grow a lot of hay, corn, watermelons, and tobacco, to name a few. In addition to the big farms, there are plenty of smaller family farms. Several U-pick plantations offering blueberries, strawberries and much more provide farm fresh produce year round. Farmers on tractors are as common here as busses in the city, but life is so much more relaxed here.
Modern Amenities
But don’t let the rural feel fool you, Suwannee Valley Electric Coop (our local power company) recently built a state of the art fiber optic network that is online in this area, NOW. We are high tech out here! The recent addition of cell phone towers had vastly improved cell phone service here too!
Small Town Fun
There are several events and festivals here every year. For example, we support our veterans on Memorial Day and Veteran’s Day by lining the main roads in town with crosses bearing their names. Additionally, you can enjoy the annual Strawberry festival in the spring and have a good old fashioned Christmas on the Square with vendors and craftspeople selling handmade goods in downtown Live Oak, as well as a lighted float parade. Another highlight each year is the County Fair. It’s a fun opportunity for our farmers to exhibit their bounty along with carnival games and rides to provide entertainment for the entire family too!
